Or a response to a polite inquiry into the content of my emerging book. Short. Simple. Just a taste.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nancymthurston.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/21\/keep-it-short\/nancy-at-katu-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-248\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-248\" alt=\"Nancy at KATU #2\" src=\"http:\/\/nancymthurston.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/nancy-at-katu-2.jpg?w=150&#038;resize=150%2C88\" width=\"150\" height=\"88\" \/><\/a>For a woman who loves to dive deeply into gargantuan topics, the thought of short or simple used to send me into a panic. I couldn\u2019t even imagine how to boil my words down to a description that felt true and made any sense.<\/p>\n<p>With a lot of hand holding and expertise from <a title=\"Jen Violi\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jenvioli.com\/\">Jen Violi<\/a>, my writing coach, creative dula and content editor, I found my way to the following short book description:<\/p>\n<p><em><b>Big Topics at Midnight: A Texas Girl Wakes Up to Race, Class, Gender and Herself<\/b><\/em> defies easy categorization. It&#8217;s memoir and history and a celebration of the power of faith, myth and magic. It\u2019s personal, and it calls for social change. Through the lenses of race, class, gender and spirituality, Nancy Thurston excavates history\u2014personal, familial, global\u2014for the sake of cross-generational healing and transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Then last week I had 3-4 minute <a href=\"http:\/\/www.katu.com\/amnw\/segments\/Big-Topics-Author-Nancy-Thurston-207892771.html\"><strong>interview<\/strong><\/a> on Portland\u2019s KATU AM Northwest show. No succinct description written out and read. But the instructions were the same. Short. Simple. Just a taste.<\/p>\n<p>Slowly I am learning the art of brevity.
